Gulkand Milk

Serves 1 · Prep 3 min · Cook 2 min · 215 calories per serving

A fragrant and soothing Indian beverage made by dissolving sweet rose petal jam (gulkand) in warm or cold milk, often garnished with nuts.

Why it's healthy

Gulkand Milk offers health benefits primarily from its two main ingredients. Milk is an excellent source of high-quality protein for muscle repair and calcium and phosphorus, which are vital for strong bones and teeth. It is also often fortified with Vitamin D, which aids calcium absorption. Gulkand, a preserve of rose petals, is highly regarded in Ayurvedic traditions for its cooling effect on the body, making it beneficial for reducing acidity and soothing the digestive system. Rose petals themselves contain antioxidants that help combat oxidative stress. This beverage can be a calming, nutrient-dense option, especially when consumed before bedtime.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp gulkand (rose petal jam)
